Owner Sandi Hendry's own grandson was born at just 30 weeks. During this devastating and trying time, Sandi placed a mini-sized minky with her daughter to absorb her scent (along with her love and faith) and then placed this same mini blanket with her small grandson in the incubator. Her grandson began to thrive and grow while snuggling this mini minky with his mother's smell. This increased the awareness for the same need among other NICU families. Sandi was determined to share luxury and comfort to as many NICU families as she could and so, The Heart of Minky Couture program was created. When you choose to purchase from Minky Couture it allows us to donate mini sized blankets to NICU's across the nation. Read other NICU stories on our blog, shop our latest styles here!
Learn about our relationship with Primary Children's Hospital and Intermountain Healthcare:
Sandi Sumner Hendry, owner and founder of MINKY COUTURE designer blankets, started the company with a mission to provide cozy comfort for loved ones in need.
Since 2009 Sandi has had eight grandchildren spend time in a Level 4 NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit). Sandi quickly learned the value of the specialized care offered by these amazing caregivers.
When her grandson, born at just 30 weeks, was admitted to the NICU, Sandi gave her daughter Jami a little mini blanket to keep next to her own chest and then to place in the incubator with her son. The mini blanket’s cozy feel, along with his mother's scent, created an environment of support and healing for this precious child.
Sandi's heart goes out to all these NICU infants. Her desire is for each baby to have a small piece of cozy comfort as they fight for their life. Every year, MINKY COUTURE now donates over 30,000 mini blankets to NICUs across the United States. Our hope is to eventually provide this little comfort for every NICU patient.
When presented with the question, “WHAT IF…You could help babies survive and thrive for generations to come?”, Sandi responded not just with words but with her heart and wallet:
MINKY COUTURE has pledged to donate $1 million to the new state-of-the-art NICU at Primary Children’s Hospital. We’re working hard to do everything we can to help our tiniest community members.
And this timing couldn’t be more significant: Intermountain Primary Children’s Hospital is celebrating a major milestone – its 100th birthday – with leaders marking a century of pediatric care excellence and service to children throughout the Intermountain West by renewing their Primary Promise to keep the ‘Child First and Always’.
Teaming up with Intermountain Children’s Health and the NICU at Primary Children’s Hospital, we’re excited to help more babies live their healthiest lives possible. Join us in our efforts by donating a few dollars during checkout.
Babies who transition out of the NICU may never know the heroic efforts made on their behalf. But their parents will never forget. They will forever regard the Primary Children’s Hospital NICU as a place where miracles happen — miracles made possible by the compassion of generous donors like you.
