Felix's Heart of Minky NICU story is told here in the words of his mother.

“In September of 2019 we were excited to find out that I was pregnant with our 6th child.
At 9 weeks I had my first appointment with my MFM (maternal fetal Medicine doctor). I have a condition in my pregnancies called ISO or isoimmunization. It’s an antibody incompatibility. I can’t receive the Rhogam shot and my body attacks baby and can cause many issues. All of our previous children have been affected by this.
Our results came back negative for full trisomy 13 but positive for mosaics trisomy 13. It isn’t fatal but it affects many different aspects of a child’s body. We also found out that he was a boy. We knew he was a fighter and that no matter what God had a plan in store for him.
At my 16 week ultrasound my scans for him ISO were extremely high. Because I was so early we couldn’t do a transfusion. We decided to undergo IVIG infusions to help keep my antibody levels down and hopefully give us a few more weeks until we could do the transfusion safely. Our goal was 30 weeks.
We scheduled the transfusion for that next Monday to allow me to get steroids. As soon as the transfusion began I started to contract pretty intensely. My doctor was having a hard time getting the needle inserted into the umbilical cord. Felix was also moving a ton. They gave him a paralytic to hopefully reach the umbilical cord. It was also shortly after that I had to be put under general anesthesia because my anxiety was too high.
The next thing I remember is hearing a nurse say baby boy johnson NIcU area 7. My nurse came over and told me that they were never able to perform the transfusion. My placenta abrupted so badly and my doctor had to deliver baby to save both of us. A few hours later I was wheeled to the smaller baby unit to see him. He was born 1lb 15oz and 13 inches long. To see him that small was overwhelming. We had a long 3 1/2 months in the NICU. We battled the anemia for a while and also developed ROP. Every day he showed us how strong he was.
Felix came home 3 days after his due date after 102 days in the NICU. He is now a happy 4 1/2 month old. He has been cleared of any genetic issues. We thank God every day for our miracle.”
