I went into unexpected preterm labor at 33 weeks. I had to stay in the hospital with round the clock meds to keep baby girl put as long as we possibly could. She decided March 10th 2021 was her day to meet her family and we luckily got her to 37 weeks. She unfortunately inhaled a lot of amniotic fluid and struggled to breathe, so she was immediately taken to the NICU to help get fluid out of her lungs and get her support with oxygen. We thought it would be an easy fix and quick stay. She unfortunately kept dealing with hurdles when it came to oxygen and eating. She had to be tube fed for weeks and they just didn't understand why. She couldn't keep her oxygen at a safe level and dipped really low while sleeping.
After a month stay and the hospital not knowing why, we were sent home on oxygen and got a referral to Primary Children's. We found out she was born with an airway disorder called laryngomalacia. Part of her trachea and upper airway didn't quite get formed properly, so every time she drank her milk she was aspirating. She was so sweetly given a Minky once she was originally admitted into the NICU the night she was born, and she slept with it during the entire stay.
Once discharged, family members gifted us 3 more because she loved the feel of them! Now that she's a thriving one year old and Christmas is right around the corner, we have a grande size tucked away for Christmas day for her to last her several years. We love Minky and the beautiful impact it had on our NICU baby girl.❤️
